IN THE STUDIO w/ Emma Carter

Being a girl who has grown up in Southern Gospel Music, one of my favorite things to do was to go to the studio when my family would record a new cd. It was always so exciting when my brother, Stone, and I would get to record OUR song. The very first song we recorded, when I was only about three, was “Jesus Loves Me/Jesus Loves the Little Children”. When we listen to that CD now, we just crack up laughing at ourselves because we sound like little munchkins.

We have had some big changes in our group over the last two years. In February of 2010 my grandparents retired from singing and came off of the road. Stone (he’s my brother) and I have had to step up and sing the whole program rather than just one or two songs. That also means that now when we record, we are part of the whole process from beginning to end. We are beyond excited about that!

In 2010 we signed a recording contract with Crossroads Music out of Asheville, NC. In April of that year, we recorded our first CD with just my mom, dad, Stone and I. We love Crossroads and all of the people in our recording family. What a blessing to be able to work with such amazing people!

Just a few weeks ago we recorded a new CD. I would gladly share the title if we had decided on one yet. It's songs of encouragement, to lift up the listener. My solo songs are “Get All Excited”, “Be Thou My Vision” and “I Just Feel Like Something Good Is About To Happen”. I love them! All the songs on our new CD are older songs. At first it was supposed to be a hymns CD, but it turned into more of a classics rather than hymns.

A lot of my friends ask me, “What is it like to be in the studio?” Of course I'm always eager to share because I love it so much! We have a lot of fun with our producer Mr. Jeff Collins, and the engineers Mr. Van and Mr. Scott. They make us feel so at ease, which is important, because it can be pretty intimidating when it’s just you and a microphone in a glass room. It's hard to put into words what the experience feels like. There's always such a fun and happy spirit in the air, which makes it easy to sing your little heart out! When I’m not singing, I always enjoy sitting on that big fluffy couch in front of the soundboard. I promise it's the comfiest couch you'll ever sit on!
